Gift wrapping course in Ashby proves popular

As you may have read on our Facebook page, we’re delighted that the fabulous Jane Means has agreed to hold two Gift Wrapping Workshops for us on Thursday 25 June. For those of you who may not be familiar with Jane’s work, she is renowned for her beautiful wrapping, holding courses across the globe and appearing on national TV.  She even has a book and DVD to take you step by step through the process, as well as her own online store, where you will find all manner of stunning paper, ribbons and wrapping accessories. If you look at your pile of wrapped Christmas presents under the tree in December and sadly realise that it looks more like a jumble sale than a photo straight from the pages of good Housekeeping, then this course is for you! For only £45pp, Jane herself will teach you the art of gift wrapping, before letting you loose with the paper, scissors and ribbon – round tins of sweets will never be a problem again!  And of course we’ll keep you fortified with fresh coffee and scrummy home-baked cookies. Places are quickly being booked up, so if you’d like to come along, get in...

Donations to Tibetan earthquake school

Donations to Tibetan earthquake school Like you, we watched in horror, the footage of the earthquakes which occurred in Nepal on 25 April and 12 May. Located thousands of miles away, it’s easy to feel helpless in the face of so much tragedy.  However, our team at Ashby Treats was determined to help.  Inspired by the “Nagajuna School Earthquake Support” fund set up by Rebecca Seddon as an offshoot of The Nagajuna Trust, we’ve launched our own means of raising funds to support this worthwhile cause. The first earthquake hit just outside the area of the Pokhara school, with the second earthquake destabilising the building and its surroundings even further.  Throughout the region itself, there was considerable loss of life and damage.  Thankfully, none of the schoolchildren were badly injured.  However, many of them are sleeping out in the open for safety; with medicine, food and fuel having subsequently soared in price. This appeal is hoping to raise £10,000 to cover the cost of rebuilding the school and providing much needed supplies.  At the time of writing, it has achieved 80% of its target. We’re doing what we can to help and so can you.  For our “Sweetie Bag Challenge”, we will donate 25p from every special sweetie bag bought from our shop, to the appeal. Why not pop down and help us to help the children of...

Truffles for teacher

With end of term looming fast on the horizon, it’s almost time to say thanks to your child’s favourite teacher for all they’ve done for your darling daughter or son throughout the last year. There are several teachers in our family who have all admitted that their once-spacious cupboard above the kettle in the kitchen is now choc-a-block with mugs from past pupils.  It’s not that they’re not grateful – they tell me that each and every mug brings back fond memories of individual children.  It’s simply that they can only drink out of one mug at a time! So this year, I’ve done the hard work for you.  I have personally researched what a teacher would love to receive instead (and let’s face it, most of them have earned it!)  The winner hands-down turned out to be “something we can use and won’t hang around in the back of a cupboard”. Put yourself in their shoes.  After a full morning or afternoon of scolding Hamish for pulling Jessica’s hair, listening to girls’ incessant chatter about Justin Timberlake  and trying to keep the noise level above a dull roar, what would get you through ’till hometime?  In the (assumed) absence of hard liquor, we think it would be some good, strong coffee, matched with an energy surge provided by some delicious, quality chocolate truffles. And that’s just what we’ve popped into our luxurious “Thank You Teacher’s Gift Set”, priced at only £12.50 – a 100g bag of pure ground coffee, along with a box of six truffles.  They’ll be the envy of the staff room! Remember that all our gifts are hand produced and are therefore limited, so make sure you get yours well in time, before we sell...
